MDP coalition says govt abusing Civil Service Law

Deputy Leader of Jumhoory Party (JP) and key member of the MDP Alliance ADK Nashid have stated that MDP Alliance is receiving many complaints that the government is abusing the Civil Service Law by using civil servants in campaign activities.
Speaking at a news conference held at Nala Hiya Hotel, Dhaalu Atoll MP and Deputy JP Leader Nashid said that the matter has not been raised to civil service commission as the civil servants are afraid of government reprisals.
Nashid further said high ranking government officials are forcing civil servants either by intimidation or by using unfair tactics to participate in campaign rallies and the civil servants are afraid of launching any initiative against such action out of fear for their jobs.
United MDP Alliance said a mere press release by Civil Service Commission condemning such action is not enough to prevent such intimidation. The Alliance said the commission has an obligation and a responsibility to check in the matter and take preventative measures.
He alleged that government has given special leave to some Defense Force Officers and are using them to carry out campaign activities. He said he is very concerned and also condemned that action.
“We are ready to take the matter up and share the information we have received with the commission, if those working in this sector are willing” Nashid.
Nashid said civil servants are protected by law and should get rid of their fears and should be strong. He called on the Commission to protect its staff from being abused.
